Thinner in 30: Change #1 (Part 1)
And so the Challenge begins…
I’m going to write this post in two parts. The first part I’m writing before I begin the day’s change challenge. I’ll spell out what change I’m supposed to be making and why. The second part I’ll write at the end of the day. I’ll describe how the challenge went and what I thought about it. I’ll try to make this the standard set up throughout this challenge.

Change #1: Drink 20 Sips of Water the Moment You Wake Up
SIMPLY PUT… Put a full glass of water by your bed before you go to sleep each night. When your alarm goes off in the morning, literally sit up and start drinking. Drink twenty normal-sized sips of water. (Loc. 198)
This is supposed to kick-start your metabolism and help curb some hunger pangs. Let the calorie burning begin…
Jenna says, “They force you to do something good for yourself before you even think about what you need to handle for your family, your boss, or whoever else wants a piece of you that day. They will remind you of what’s ahead and give you time to reflect and prepare for the other changes you’ll soon learn and incorporate into your lifestyle.” (Loc. 219) And “staying hydrated will crush your crazy cravings, leave you feeling fuller longer, and reduce your appetite for excess calories during every meal. It will also help your body figure out whether it’s really hungry or just really bored.” (Loc. 226)
I’m not surprised to read the recommendation of drinking half your body weight in ounces of water throughout the day. That seems to be a pretty popular view these days.
Jenna also provides a few tips and tricks. (I’ll just list them here. For more detail you’ll have to pick up a copy of the book.)
- Find the biggest beaker you can bear.
- Never leave your glass empty.
- Fill in and chill it.
- Put time on your side.
- Put a bottle in several places.
- Sip during your guilty pleasures.
- Tack on 5 or 10 onto that 20.
- Have it one ice for extra results.
- Use a straw.
- Try it fizzy.
- Add some heat to what you eat.
- Dress it up. (She even gives a few good suggestion for tasty combinations.)
